Rhubarb crisp with apple
Rhubarb Apple Crisp

Everyone loves old-fashioned crisp desserts especially in our house where they are a staple. The ones I make are always different because they’re made with whatever seasonal or frozen fruit I have in the house.

This delicious rhubarb apple crisp has a nice blend of sour (rhubarb) and sweet (apple).

Add a splash of whipping cream and you have a yummy dessert.

Here’s a rhubarb dessert recipe you’ll definitely want to try. It starts out with rhubarb on the bottom of a cake pan and finishes with a sponge-like cake topping. It’s easy to make when there’s a plentiful supply of fresh rhubarb, which makes it a perfect spring dessert.

This is a colourful slaw recipe with purple cabbage and carrots. It has green grapes and sesame seeds as well. The dressing is not too heavy, which is what I like.

Asian Carrot Slaw

This asian carrot slaw recipe has mayonnaise peanut butter dressing and is a nice change from your typical cabbage slaw. If you like a little heat I suggest you add the hot chili paste.

Serves 6

½ cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons brown sugar
4 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger, peeled
1 clove garlic, minced
3 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons peanut butter
1/4 teaspoon chili paste (such as sambal oelek) optional
6 cups shredded green cabbage
2 large carrots, peeled and grated
4 green onions, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste

Whisk together the first 7 ingredients in a small bowl. Combine cabbage, carrots and green onions in a large bowl. Add enough dressing to coat, then toss and season with salt and pepper.
